End organ shortage
In a previous letter to the editor I read of an organization called LifeSharers, the purpose of which is to increase organ availability by giving donors priority if they should develop a need for an organ in the future.
My wife and I have joined, which took a few minutes on the Internet, was free, and will direct our organ donations first to other members. It will also give us priority to receive other members' organs, should the need arise.
I can think of no reason anyone who is willing to be a donor, or who would ever want to be eligible as a recipient, should not join immediately. The organ shortage would end if only donors were eligible to receive organs. Laws need to change, but until that happens, this organization can advance the fairness of the system by giving priority to its donor-members.
Contact LifeSharers.com or phone 615-356-3918 (Nashville, Tenn.) for info or to join. Please!
