Organs needed
Dave Druker of the Illinois secretary of state's office states official
organ distribution policy when he says [news story, Nov. 23], ''need
should determine who gets organs, not whether people are signed up for a
group.'' That policy is unfair and counterproductive. The group that most
deserves to get organs is the group that has agreed to donate their own.
About 80 percent of all organs are given to people who haven't agreed to
donate their own. That's just not fair. It also reduces everyone's
incentive to sign a donor card in the first place. LifeSharers helps fix
this problem.
The United Network for Organ Sharing fears that LifeSharers represents
''a 'class' of individuals.'' LifeSharers represents the class of
individuals who give the gift of life by donating their organs when they
die. Membership in this class is free, open to all, and only a mouse click
away at www.lifesharers.com.
